THE MAKING OF: SAL'S DINER
Sal's diner was a film set built on a tight budget at Dreamscreen Australia's film studio. Set in the 1950's, this no-frills American diner is a converted train carriage with an ironic aviation theme. As the production designer, it was my job to bring the look and feel to life and dress the set to tell the story.

No diner is complete without a menu! Here, I designed tabletop menus and overhead menus from a combination of paper, self adhesive vinyl, automotive detail strips and foam board.

Is it even America if you can't get a slice of pie?
Pie stand
The iconic diner look means you have a long row of bar seating. While I had access to one bench, another identical one had to be fabricated to give us more room. Then, both were skinned with adhesive vinyl and automotive trim to tie it all together.
